Errors and Omissions (E&O) / Professional Liability

Errors & Omissions Liability Insurance and Professional Liability Insurance are available for a broad range of specific professions as well as a host of other services that are truly “miscellaneous”. The policies are designed to protect an insured for the financial consequences of errors or omissions in the performance of services to third parties for a fee. Some of the professions for which coverage is available have specific education and licensing requirements such as:

  • Accountants
  • Architects
  • Attorneys
  • Engineers
  • Hospitals
  • Physicians

(Note: medical malpractice insurance for hospitals, physicians, chiropractors, dentists, etc. is a coverage that is not offered by Blais Excess & Surplus Agency of Texas, Ltd.)

There is a broad range of other professions that have exposures to claims arising from professional services. These are covered by Miscellaneous Errors & Omissions policies. Only some of these professions are listed below. Insurers, with enough underwriting information to give them an idea of the exposures being insured, will provide quotations for almost any perceived professional exposure.

  • Adjustors
  • Public Relations Firms
  • Answering Services
  • Publishers
  • Appraisers
  • Quality Assurance Consulting
  • Bookkeepers

What is covered by an Errors & Omissions Policy? Coverage under most policies is tied to a specific definition of “professional services” and applies to any actual or alleged error or omission or breach of duty committed or alleged to have been committed or for failure to render such professional services as are customarily rendered in the profession of the insured.
